The Vivian Girls - Everything Goes Wrong (lp)

Rock music for the most part is dead, there are so many sub-genres, but I like to think that The Vivian Girls are what rock music would sound like. You can say they are noisy, lo-fi, punk, or whatever but that is what makes their new record Everything Goes Wrong such a great listen. These three girls are making music they want to make and others may not enjoy what they are creating but for those who do enjoy it, this a very very solid record.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs- Heads Will Roll (Passion Pit Remix) (track)

One of the best tracks off of The Yeah Yeah Yeahs newest record remixed by Passion Pit, need I say more. This stutter fulled remixed has club written all over it, at points if feels like a totally different jam then what the original was. Passion Pit did this track justice even if doesn't feel like they are the masterminds behind this.

Smith Westerns - S/T

There are albums that you really enjoy but only really listen to it on occasion but there are albums that will always have room in your rotation. For the Smith Westerns' self titled release it hard to say which category it would fall into. This record is a solid garage rock, teen angst, lo-fi event with great songs all over it but there is something about it that seems to be lacking. This album screams with it fuzzy guitar riffs but keeps it cool with its pop sensibility.

Small Black - Despicable Dog (track)

This jam is so chill you can almost feel the heat of summer on your face while its playing. Despicable Dog by Small Black is a dreamy lo-fi tune that is full of synth layers and has a great hazy feel and with that mixture you can't go wrong. Their newest album is out mid October and it is going to be a great one.

Fuck Buttons - Surf Solar (video)

Hey it sounds good and looks good. Off the upcoming album Tarot Sport do mid October.

Monsters Of Folk (track)

The Monsters of Folk is a musical project consisting of Conor Oberst, Jim James, M. Ward, and Mike Mogis. With all those big names working together one might expect great things, they fucking call themselves Monsters so you know they aren't messing around with their folk. The tracks out there seem very promising but at times it feels like they all just took turns writing songs in their own style, which isn't a bad thing really, but here is hoping it is more of band effort and not just a bunch of songs each could of released themselves. With that said, if you like any of the names involved in this project you need to check out this self titled album, coming this month on the 22nd.

The Replacements - Let IT Be (classic)

This record came out three years before I was born and I never even heard a single song by The Replacements until I was sixteen but it feels like this record could of came out out numerous points in my life. This record came into my life when I stumbled across it at a thrift store for fifty cents on cassette, I really only picked it up because of the cover. Needless to say this was in heavy rotation for many months after that day. What I heard on The Replacements' Let It Be was a mixture of punk and rock but something about it made stick out in my mind and one of my favorite of all time. A classic record to drink beer to as well.

Girls - Lust for Life

When I first came across this video I was thinking it was going to be an Iggy Pop cover, which I am thankful it was not. This video works so well with this song that it kind of pisses you off a little knowing that you aren't doing that as this very moment. Expect the self-titled album out the 22nd of this month.

Islands - Vapours (track)

When the The Unicorns broke up and started to do their own thing, I really didn't know what to think, but once the first Islands record came out I kind of forgot about The Unicorns for a bit. They are now on their third album and it seems like they are just getting better and better at what they do, and that is pop music. The title track from the album arriving the 22nd of this month, which is titled Vapours, defiantly has something to it that The Unicorns would of probably would of never done.

The Drums - Lets Go Surfing (ep)

You know an album has something to it when you listen to it and by the end of it you want to start a band with all your friends and just be young in the summertime. That could be the case when you take a listen to Lets Go Surfing by The Drums, a little beach poppy kind of affair that does not disappoint. This EP consist of six songs that all bring the 50s/60s beach scene to mind but that aren't riding the coattails of what has happened in the past, they bring their own thing experimental ideas to the table It's the fact that it is a simple pop album that makes you wish you lived next to the beach all summer long with no end is site.
